2012 Summer Camps!!!

BALLET FOR BEGINNERS

July 16-20, 1:30-4:00 p.m., Ages 4-7
Dance with Elizabeth Diaz Krash, a former member of the
American Ballet Theatre! Leap over Priscilla the Pig, float
like a butterfly and prance like a pony while learning the
basics of ballet!  Children develop coordination, strength,
and flexibility in this fun camp that ends with a mini-
performance for family and friends on Friday.  If you have
a dance leotard and tights, wear it! $135.00

PRESCHOOL ART CAMP
Ages 3-6, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

MERMAIDS & PIRATES!  August 13-17
Make mermaid art and paint a pirate ship!  Make a
treasure map, decorate a pirate sword with glitter and
gems, and paint fish that swim in the deep blue sea!  Read
fishy stories, play on the playground, and learn sea songs!
Includes snack and supplies.  Bring a peanut-free lunch.

ELEMENTARY ART CAMPS!

Ages 6-12, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  $170/5 day camp.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL July 2-6
(4days – no class July 4th  $140)
Explore America’s beauty in nature and art – Paint a
mountain sunset on canvas, create a Native American
dream catcher, draw a desert landscape in pastels, and
“round-up” some great cowboy art!

MEET ME DOWN UNDER, MATE! July 9-13
Crikey!  Have fun as you discover the art of Australia –
make a boomerang and an aboriginal dot painting, create a
crocodile, paint a koala. Learn about didgeridoos and
more in the outback!

IT’S A ZOO OUT THERE!  July 16-20
Animal lovers will love drawing, painting, and sculpting
animals!  Make a pastel fox, thumbprint animal cards, sock
monkeys, paint a horse, and create your own imaginary
animal from recycled materials!

BUGS, BEES & TREES! July 23-27
Explore the fun and beauty of nature as you paint a colorful
bird house and make a leaf collage painting with a marble.  
Go on a nature scavenger hunt to find objects for painting,
printmaking, and a painted rock sculpture!

AFRICAN EXPLORER July 30 – August 3
Learn about the art and music of this beautiful continent!  
Make an African drum and a flamingo puppet, design a
Kente cloth bookmark, create silhouette art, and paint your
own tree of life.  

WHEN PIGS HAVE WINGS!  August 6-10
Make amazing creations inspired by characters in your
favorite books including Harry Potter, The Madhatter,
Huck Fin, Dragons, and more.  Projects include
cartooning, pop art, painting, and sculpture!

BEACH WEEK   August 20-24
Surf on a wave of creative fun at beach week!  Make an
underwater collage painting, a mosaic sun, a sand castle
scrapbook and cool surfer jewelry for boys and girls in this
popular back to the beach camp!





TEENS & TWEENS STUDIO ART
CAMPS
 -Ages 11+

SESSION I:  June 25-29, 1:30-4:00 p.m. $175
SESSION II:  August 13-17, 1:30-4:00 p.m. $175

Teen artists choose their own projects in this studio
class that enables them to develop drawing skills,
paint with acrylics on canvas, explore mosaics, glass
painting, printmaking and more.  The small classes
taught by professional artists focus on individual
attention and encourage the unique creativity of each
student.  All supplies and a snack are provided.












MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP -
THE JUNGLE BOOK - KIDS!

Session I:  July  30-August 3, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  Rising 1st - Rising 4th Grade

Session II: August 6-10, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  Rising 4th Grade – Rising 7th Grade

$255  Register by May 1.

Join Mowgli, Baloo & friends in a fantastic
production of Disney’s The Jungle Book – Kids!  The
musical features unforgettable music like The Bare
Necessities as it tells the story of Mowgli, the Man-
cub’s journey from life in the jungle to the Man
Village.  Directed by Sylvia Cooper, the camp ends in
a full production in the evening on the last day of
camp!  Every child that registers will receive a part
on stage!  Snacks are provided – bring a bagged
peanut-free lunch.  Extended day care optional.   

Extended Day for Musical:  Before Care (8:30 - 9:30
a.m.) $25/week.   After Care (3:30 -5:30 p.m.)
$50/week.  


CHESS CAMPS

HOW TO PLAY & WIN!  Grades K-6
August 20-24, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Learn to play one of the world’s oldest and most
challenging games—chess. Discover strategies that
build a strong chess foundation, one piece at a time in
a fun environment! Put these strategies to work in
Pawn Games that test your skills. Conquer the
mysteries of check, checkmate and stalemate. Then,
learn to start the game with the advantage using an
opening strategy that will keep your opponents on the
defensive. Set up checkmate patterns that will help
you win in the endgame. Develop the skills that will
make you a strong player.  Players are paired
according to age and ability.  Snack provided.

ROBOTICS – AGES 9-14

LEGOS & ROBOTS!  Learn how to build and
design Robots using the Lego NXT system.  Students
will learn basic robotic engineering, programming
principals, and the Lego Mindstorms NXT Robotics
Invention system.  No previous experience required,
however intermediate Robotics students will have
new challenges in sensor and programming to take
their skills to the next level.   Instructor Julie
Eberheim is the coach of teams that have won
regional and State awards in the First Lego League in
2007 and 2008 and in the 2009 FIRST TECH
CHALLENGE – a high school league.  This team won
local and regional competitions in 2011 and went on
to compete at The World Tournament in St. Louis!!!

Session I:  June 18-22, 4:30-7:30 p.m.  
Session II:  July 23-27, 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Session III:  August 6-10, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

FLL LEGO ROBOTICS!  Using Lego NXT
Robotics kits and laptop computers, campers are
introduced to robot design, basic programming,
engineering practices, and competition strategies.  
Team working skills will be emphasized as the kids
work together in small groups to design, build and
program robots to complete missions in a mini-
competition on the last day of camp.  Family and
friends are invited to the competition at 10:30 a.m. on
Friday.  Instructor Gregg Butler has coached award
winning teams in  Virginia/DC regional competitions.
