As an award winning orchestra teacher in Henrico County, Ms. Johnson developed and
coordinated the division’s Strings Discovery Program designed to introduce stringed
instruments to rising 6th grade students prior to entering middle school. Ms. Johnson’s
orchestras have distinguished themselves for outstanding performances throughout the
county and most recently performed at the Virginia Music Educators’ State Convention
in Norfolk, VA. Orchestras under Ms. Johnson’s baton consistently received superior
ratings at regional and state festivals and at national competitions in Chicago, New
York, Toronto, and Boston. In addition to numerous individual awards and recognition
for their performances.

Ms. Johnson has participated in several conducting workshops led by Dr. William
Jones of Iowa State University, Dr. Anthony Maiello of George Mason University, and
Dr. Marvin Rabin.  Ms. Johnson is highly sought after as a conductor and clinician. She
has served as guest conductor and clinician for the Virginia’s Central Regional
Orchestra Event, North Central Regional Orchestra Event, Southeastern Regional
Orchestra Event, JMU’s Spring String Thing, Chesterfield County Schools All-County
Orchestra, Richmond City Schools All-City Orchestra for three years, Newport News
City Schools All-City Orchestra, Fauquier County Schools, Norfolk City Schools, and
Spotsylvania County Schools All County Orchestra, Pitt County All County Fifth Grade
Orchestra in North Carolina for three years. Ms. Johnson also served three years as
conductor for Richmond Symphony’s Youth Concert Orchestra, an intermediate full
orchestra. Ms. Johnson has judged several district orchestra festivals in North Carolina
and throughout Virginia. Ms. Johnson also served as the orchestra director for the
Sinfonia Orchestra at Shenandoah Performing Arts Camp at Shenandoah University in
Winchester, VA.

In September 2009, Ms. Johnson was appointed director of the Rappahannock Youth
Symphony Orchestra in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Additionally, Ms. Johnson was a
2010 finalist for the R. E. B. Award for Teaching Excellence (www.tcfrichmond.org),
Ms. Johnson is also active in the greater Richmond and state music community holding
membership and serving as past president of the Virginia Chapter of the American
String Teachers’ Association, Music Educators’ National Conference and the Virginia
Music Educators National Conference. She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc, and an active member at The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond,
Virginia. She remains an active soloist and chamber music perforner in high demand.
She serves as the founder of VJStrings Inc., a music consulting firm devoted to
providing excellent musical performances and information for all occasions.

Veronica Johnson


Veronica studied violin at the University of
Miami (Coral Gables) with Dr.
MarlaMeutschler (Paul Rolland protégé) and
Dr. Earl Sanders at North Carolina Central
University (NCCU). After graduating summa
cum laude from NCCU, she began teaching
orchestra in Wake County Schools on the
elementary, middle and high schools in
Raleigh, North Carolina. Ms. Johnson moved
to Richmond in 1994 and began teaching in
Henrico County, where she currently works
at Byrd Middle School and Godwin High
School.
