Aaron Zarrow
Drums

ABOUT
Aaron Zarrow began studying drums at the age of 9 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Aaron studied with legendary drummers such as Joe Morello and Billy Hart, as well as many other inspiring educators in the Philadelphia and New York City areas.

With nearly 25 years of experience behind the kit, Aaron has spent the past two decades performing in a wide variety of musical settings. You can often catch him performing around the Richmond metro area in regular gigs with The Nucleus Trio (Jazz/Funk), Say Less Brass (traditional and modern brass band), Rumble Trio (Surf Rock), and Big Fancy (R&B/Soul/Pop), in addition to playing private events such as weddings and other special occasions.

Aaron has spent the last 15 years helping students discover the joy of drumming. He teaches students ages 8 through adults, with lessons tailored to each individual’s goals and learning style. Aaron’s instruction includes reading music, developing technique, exploring different musical genres, learning songs, and playing with other musicians.

Aaron enjoys playing and teaching a wide range of styles, and has a particular passion for Funk, Jazz, Rock and R&B. In lessons, he emphasizes building strong fundamentals—from proper grip and posture to active listening and musicality—so students can grow into confident and expressive drummers. Ultimately, his goal is to help each student become the most versatile and self-assured musician they can be behind the kit!
