ABOUT
Clarinetist and saxophonist Eddie Sundra currently plays with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Clarinet, and performs extensively in the Central Virginia area. Eddie received his BM performance degree from Penn State University and his Masteers from the University of Michigan, where he also studied composition and music production.
As an instructor, Eddie has maintained studios in State College, PA and Ann Arbor, MI. Eddie has presented masterclasses at Central Michigan University and Penn State University, and has worked with underserved students in the Aspen, CO community, as part of the Passes and Lessons Program (P.A.L.S.). He has also worked with high school band programs in Richmond, VA and Ann Arbor, MI as a sectional instructor, and has presented classes to students at Virginia Commonwealth University on recital recording techniques.
Eddie has an extensive performance background, having been a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and Lima Symphony in Ohio. He has made guest appearances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Sarasota Symphony Orchestra, and others. Festival appearances include the Colorado Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, and Thy Chamber Music Festival in Aalborg, Denmark.
Eddie’s hope as a teacher is to offer a solid foundation of fundamentals and understanding of music making–from solo to ensemble playing, while cultivating a life-long passion for music. Eddie utilizes a series of warm up techniques and materials that he has collected from former teachers, as well as exercises he has personally written. Eddie believes that with the right desire and work ethic, students can be successful in achieving their goals while cultivating a love and appreciation for music past, present, and future.
