Madeline Southall holds a Bachelors of Music in cello performance from Liberty University and a Masters of Music in cello performance from Shenandoah Conservatory. Her primary teachers include Julian Schwarz, Neal Cary, and David Feldman. During her undergraduate studies she received multiple awards including “String Player of the Year” and “Orchestra Member of the Year” as well as a full graduate assistantship to Shenandoah Conservatory. Madeline has served as a member of faculty and staff for multiple summer music programs including the James Players Summer Chamber Music Camp for whom she was a Chamber Music Coach and fellow, as well as the Heifetz International Summer Music Institute for which she was an integral member of their “Program for the Exceptionally Gifted” in Staunton, VA for both their 2018 and 2019 seasons. Madeline currently performs with the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and the Richmond Philharmonic. She also performs with a variety of other ensembles in Virginia including the James Chamber Orchestra, Danville Symphony Orchestra, Chesapeake Symphony Orchestra, Alluvion Stage Company, and the Charlottesville Ballet, among others. She is a very active chamber musician and regularly performs along the east coast as cellist for the Melodious Strings Quartet, Monument Quartet, and the Twin Rivers Chamber Music Ensembles. Madeline is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas as well as the Music Teacher National Association and has taught privately since 2016. She currently teaches a private cello and double bass studio in Fredericksburg, VA.
