Naima Burrs

ABOUT

Naima Burrs, violinist, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She has performed in master classes led by world renowned musicians such as Bonnie Hampton, Lawrence Dutton, Roger Tapping, The "President's Own" Quartet, and the Brooklyn Rider String Quartet.  

Naima has been featured on the historic Bruton Parish Church concert series in Williamsburg, VA, and has served as concert master of a chamber orchestra for the premiere of Steven Allen's opera, “ Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadow” at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.  She participated in a performance tour of Ireland during the summer of 2012 with locally based ensemble "Flutopia".   Naima also traveled to Italy on a choir tour, performing in great spaces such as the Basilica di San Marco in Venice and the Vatican in Rome. This summer, she was one of 12 violinists chosen internationally to participate in the 2014 Scotia Festival of Music , a two-week long chamber music festival located in Halifax, Nova Scotia at which she performed with the legendary cellist Lynn Harrell and the virtuoso violinist Giora Schmidt.  Most recently, Burrs served as concertmaster for Steven M. Allen's new opera "The Poet", starring mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, in Washington, DC.
