Sylvia Cooper

ABOUT

Sylvia N. Cooper is looking forward to returning to teaching at The Center in September 2023. Sylvia taught piano and voice at The Center from 2008-2019, mentoring and equipping hundreds of students, many who have pursued music studies at the university level. She also prepared her students to participate in the annual National Piano Guild auditions. Sylvia is a Master’s level pianist and has served as mass choir accompanist at the state and regional levels. She has also presented two benefit concerts for The Center.

Sylvia received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from James Madison University, where she was enrolled in the Music Honors program, presenting a full honors recital. She is an ordained minister and received her Master of Divinity with a Church Music concentration from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. Sylvia retired from full time music ministry in December 2022 after serving area churches for 43 years, most recently as Minister of Music and Arts at Shady Grove United Methodist Church.  

Sylvia teaches students of all ages and levels from beginners to advanced.

She nurture students to reach their full potential, developing skills of musicianship, theory, and technique, resulting in a love of music.
