Children's Art Classes

       September - May

The professional artists teaching at The Center focus on providing individualized attention to each student in a nurturing environment.  Group instruction is noted for the small class size that enables each student to develop his or her unique talents. Students may join our classes at any time, space permitting.

Due to the restrictions on our community at the current time - all Children's art classes are being offered via online video lessons.  Students are sent a video art demonstration each week that they can view through a Dropbox link on a laptop, phone, or tablet whenever they like. Using materials they have at home students have created beautiful work this year including magnolia blossoms, red pandas, kittens in trees, robins in a nest with eggs, cherry blossoms at the Washington Monument and more.  Families send cell phone photos of the finished art for feedback and to put on our virtual bulletin board.  These fun video lessons can be done at anytime during the week, and are designed for children to create independently.  Not sure? Email if you'd like a free sample lesson!

Our Preschool Art Adventures class focuses on fun and self-discovery. Preschoolers learn how to draw using basic shapes.  Inspired by nature and their favorite books, children explore paper maché, clay, watercolors and tempera. The class fosters the development of small motor skills and observation while encouraging the expression of each child’s unique creativity in a class with a low teacher/student ratio. Students can join class at any time on a pro-rated basis, space permitting.

Children from Shady Grove's Preschool are walked to class at The Center building. Children eat lunch while listening to a story and then embark on their art adventure!  (Please pack a peanut-free lunch.)
